That seals it. WWE has been shaken up in a huge way with the retirement of Vince McMahon, who had led the company for the better part of forty years. The change came as a result of a variety of payments McMahon made to various people using company funds, which led to an internal investigation. Now we know that a theory about some of these payments was accurate.
Earlier this month, two additional payments, totaling $5 million, were found to have been made by McMahon in 2007 and 2009. These were theorized to have been made as payments to the Donald Trump Foundation to secure Trump’s WWE appearances in those years. According to the Wall Street Journal, these payments were made to Trump’s foundation, as confirmed by a WWE attorney. The payments were listed as personal payments from McMahon but should have been listed as WWE expenses. In addition, Trump’s deal with WWE said his hair would not be shaved at WrestleMania 23 under any circumstances.
Opinion: This doesn’t seem to be the biggest shock and only continues to make McMahon look like he made some very bad moves while running the company. McMahon could have easily had the payments made to Trump as an official WWE expense and a lot of this would have been avoided. Why this wasn’t the case isn’t clear, but either way, McMahon is gone and probably isn’t coming back.
