He’s on the way. Any wrestler can be injured at any time in the ring and sometimes it can be a complete fluke. It can be out of absolutely nowhere and those are often some of the worst injuries that you will see. That was the case with a top AEW star earlier in the year and now he is back after a long absence. However, things might not be as far along as they seem.
Back in June, AEW World Champion CM Punk suffered a foot injury during an episode of Dynamite. He would be out of action for over two months before returning last week. According to Jim Ross on his Grilling JR podcast, Punk may not be officially cleared to return to the ring, or at least Ross has not been told he is as of yet. Punk had a staredown with Interim AEW World Champion Jon Moxley when he returned last week, but no match was officially made.
Opinion: While Punk might not be cleared to return so far, I can’t imagine that he won’t be ready by All Out on September 4. Punk would not have been in the ring brawling to end last week’s Dynamite if he was not close to ready so things might not be as bad as they seem. Hopefully he is back in the ring and cleared as soon as possible, as he has been badly missed in AEW for the last few months.
