The Undertaker recently removed all WWE references from his social media accounts. The Deadman has not been seen on WWE programming since November 2’s Crown Jewel event in 2018 and no one seems to know why he’s separating himself from the company now. But evidently, something has happened between The Phenom and WWE.
Taker has even provided contact information for bookings, which leads many to believe that he is perhaps done with Vince McMahon’s company. He’s already scheduled to appear in the United Kingdom in April and May, which has also fueled speculation that he’s moving on. So what’s the truth?
The biggest issue here is that The Undertaker isn’t talking. This is to be expected of course, as he has always tried to protect his WWE character. Any other Superstar would likely have addressed the situation by now but that’s probably not going to happen here.
Then there’s the fact that The Undertaker is a WWE lifer. He’s been an integral part of the company since 1990 and he has remained true to Vince McMahon throughout his nearly 30 year run. Other Superstars have come and gone. Legends have retired and left the business behind. But The Deadman is still there and fans must remember that.

So perhaps this situation has nothing to do with any sort of rift between Taker and Vince. Maybe this is about Undertaker wanting to stretch his legs and explore the world around him. After all, there is an entire pro wrestling business outside of WWE. If anyone has proven that, it’s Chris Jericho.
Jericho is supposedly making more money now than he ever has in his career. Chris was a WWE lifer as well it seemed, but he’s also a businessman. Jericho knows that in order to be successful, he had to keep his options open. He’s in high demand and when that happens, a guy has to get all he can, as soon as he can. That’s exactly what Chris Jericho did.
However if The Undertaker is indeed finished with WWE, what happens next? WrestleMania 35 is coming on April 7 and if The Deadman’s not there, it will be the end of an era. He’s competed on The Grandest Stage of Them All 26 times and he’s not missed a WrestleMania since 2000. So for 17 consecutive years, The Phenom has entertained WWE audiences at The Show of Shows.
But what does WWE look like without The Undertaker? It’s a question that many fans have surely asked, especially over the past few years. As time has passed, The Undertaker has gotten older. He’s lost a step in the ring and even though he’s still one of the toughest Superstars in WWE today, he’s also not the performer he was 10 years ago.

This Undertaker is slower, he’s showing his age and every WWE fan that supports him understands that. But they also understand that The Deadman has been there for them every year without fail. He is WWE. No matter who is elevated to the top guy role and no matter how often that guy may not deserve it, there’s never been a question of whether or not Taker deserves his spot. He’s earned his place in the company.
But what’s left for him now? If The Undertaker is staying in WWE, what’s the reason? What more does he have left to prove? More importantly, what more does he have to do? Apart from going on a retirement tour and spending his last year in WWE working house shows and putting over other talents, what’s left? Does anyone even want to see him do any of that?
The fact is that even if he left WWE, there’s no guarantee he’s actually going anywhere else. All Elite Wrestling is signing talents to its main roster nearly every week, as the company prepares to kick into full gear this year. But would signing Taker make any real business sense to either side? What if New Japan Pro Wrestling made a play to get The Undertaker on its roster? Would he even want to travel that far to keep his character alive?

Who else could possibly afford The Undertaker now? Would he even be The Undertaker unless he’s working in a WWE ring? There are so many questions and so many variables to consider when it comes to The Undertaker’s possible future. Where does he go from here?
No matter how many pro wrestling fans would love to see The Undertaker in another company, there are likely twice as many that want to see him remain in WWE. Of all the talent on that roster that should venture outside of Vince McMahon’s company, The Undertaker is perhaps the only one that should stay where he is. He’s so important to the history of WWE and he’s obviously extremely important to fans.
Even if he’s finished in the ring, The Undertaker doesn’t have to be finished in WWE. The company would surely find a way to keep him involved, as long as he wanted to be there. But if he doesn’t want to be there, then there’s likely nothing WWE, or anyone else, can do to stop him.
The Phenom is at the very marrow of WWE. His identity is wrapped up in that company and that company’s identity is wrapped up in him. Maybe he’s not the elite performer he once was. But he is a legend. He’s also the biggest legend that WWE has ever produced. Only he should decide when the time is right to either go home, or go somewhere else. What happens next is anyone’s guess.
