Elias has been a prominent member of the Raw roster since his call-up from NXT. Heck, he was even an integral part of the storyline at WrestleMania 34 between The Undertaker and John Cena.
While Elias has been one of the main players on Raw television, he has yet to establish himself as a top guy. The way many feel to do this is for Elias to capture either the Universal or Intercontinental Championship.
Last night on Raw, after Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins had finished his match with Jinder Mahal, Elias attacked him, using his signature guitar to do so.
Following the show, Dave Meltzer had the following to say on Elias:
“It wouldn’t be the worst idea. Actually right now I kind of think the timing is right for him to win. I know Seth is on a roll he’s doing great matches… but it’s not about great matches.”
“I think the timing of it right now, Elias is one of those guys — it’s like Seth is a star and Elias, he’s a star too but he’s not a star with credibility he’s a star in the sense where he comes out and people want to chant, ‘walk with Elias’ and they’re entertained by him. But it’s not like he has credibility as a top guy, that’s why having that title would actually help him and Seth doesn’t need that championship.”
So if Meltzer is correct, it is very possible that Elias will be the next Intercontinental Champion, moving forward.
Rollins himself has been teasing a feud on-screen and on social media with Universal Champion Brock Lesnar based on the part-time nature of the contract.
