Marissa Payne of The Washington Post confirmed the reason after contacting the WWE:
“John Cena will not be appearing as part of WWE’s European tour this November due to personal reasons.”
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Radio revealed that Cena had asked “sometime back in the summer.”
He also notes that it is for personal reasons, and not related to something like an injury.
It is interesting to note that the WWE did not mention that he is not involved in any of the other dates or shows.
In what may be a glimpse at things to come, WWE uploaded a video to YouTube today about Cena’s surprise entry in the Royal Rumble of 2008.
Kane and WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair have now taken Cena’s place in the tour.
Ric Flair will be the General Manager for those events which include Seth Rollins, Sheamus, Cesaro, Rusev, The Bella Twins and The Big Show.
Meanwhile, another portion of the tour will include Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, Kevin Owens, The Wyatt Family, Dean Ambrose and Ryback.
Daniel Bryan was on the list of confirmed superstars for the European tour but has now been removed due to an apparent error when the list was created.
Editor’s Note:
Personal reasons? I wonder what they can be. Maybe he just needs a holiday? The Royal Rumble video certainly could be an indication of things to come. If the fans didn’t want Roman Reigns to win the event this year, they won’t want Cena winning it next year. I could see the WWE having Cena return for that, then capture his 16th title before retiring. Let us know on Facebook and Twitter if you think this idea has any chance of happening.
