Tuesday we noted that the Rock vs. Triple H was still the plan for WrestleMania 32. However, we now know more of the thinking backstage about the show of shows.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reports that The Rock vs. Triple H is still one of the main events scheduled for the show.  This would rule out the talk about the potential Rollins/Triple H match, as well as the Rock reigniting his rivalry with the Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar.

Company officials, especially Vince McMahon were shocked that Steve Austin cut a promo on Brock Lesnar. No one backstage knew anything about this potential match. Following the podcast, Meltzer was told this match was not going to happen.

However, apparently something has changed, as Austin is scheduled to appear on the 10/19 edition of Raw as well as having Lesnar as a guest on the “Stone Cold Podcast”.  There are rumors that an angle may be shot during the Stone Cold Podcast between the two. He expects Austin to have some role in the show regardless.

This would leave Brock Lesnar with no clear opponent for WrestleMania. Meltzer speculates that Lesnar may be involved in the WWE Championship match.

There is speculation surrounding triple threat for the WWE Title that would feature Rollins facing Reigns (then possibly a heel) and Brock Lesnar. That way there is no screwy finish under triple threat rules.

It appears the company may still have plans for Reigns to receive a slow build to the title, possibly culminating at WrestleMania. However, with the crowd reaction he received compared to Lesnar at last year’s WrestleMania a concern, the “momentum isn’t in that direction right now.”

Regarding the Undertaker, a match with Sting is still possible. However, this all depends on the heath of the Vigilante, among other factors. Braun Strowman could also face the Undertaker. He has been pushed as a monster, similar to other opponents Undertaker has faced at WrestleMania.

Editor’s Note:

The ducks seem to be in a row for Lesnar and Austin to create some news during Raw or the Stone Cold Podcast. It could be a tease, but to me it seems weird that Austin is having Brock on his podcast (after Heyman already appeared), as well as appearing live on Raw in Dallas, the same city where WrestleMania 32 will emulate from. I would love to see this match, or Austin involved in a match of any kind. If he’s ever going to wrestle again one would think it would be this year. A triple threat between Lesnar, Rollins and Reigns would certainly be a great match, and would be the ultimate culmination of a story that started before WrestleMania 31. My personal dream card would be: Brock/ Rock, Austin/ Cena, Sting/ Undertaker and Rollins/ HHH and a fatal four way between the Four Horsewomen for the Divas Championship.
