Hornswoggle appeared during the show, entering the Greatest Royal Rumble match. There he would eliminate Dash Wilder of Raw’s Revival before being eliminated himself.
So what were the original plans?
PWInsider reports that the original plan for the Superstar was to wrestle Rob “The Giant” Araujo on the pre-show to The Greatest Royal Rumble. Araujo competed in WWE as El Torito in prior years. He faced Hornswoggle in a WeeLC match back at Extreme Rules in 2014. He also has competed for Hulk Hogan’s Micro Championship Wrestling.
It does appear that plans were changed during the day, as Araujo was still flown to Saudi Arabia for the event. As obvious from his exclusion on the show, he wasn’t used. The video below shows Hornswoggle reflecting on what he actually did during the show:
