We at Wrestling Rumors have compiled many new announcements for the WWE 2K18 video game after the information that has been revealed by 2K this week.
The following information is not in any specific order, though groups of information on the same topic are for the most part found together. If there is no expansion on any of the points, this is because little information has been given beyond what is written that we can find.
- The term “Be Like No One” is based around the MyPlayer experience, which is new to the series. MyPlayer is said to have support in MyCareer and Online to an extent. It will contain new progression upgrade systems and the ability to choose different fighting styles for your wrestlers.
- There are to be big changes to MyCareer. These include an entirely new promo engine made from scratch, dubbed ‘2.0.’ Free-roaming backstage will also be available in the mode. MyCareer will also have more of a focus on story/narrative driven content and everything should feel more re-playable.
- There will be an online mode with the title ‘Road to Glory,’ but no more information was given. It is worth noting the ‘WWE SuperCard’ app has a mode with this title.
- A new mode will be added to the Creation Suite. Titled ‘Create A Match,’ this will allow you to create your own match types with an ability to save and use them on your game in Universe Mode and regular matches. It is unknown if they can appear in MyCareer at this time.
- All modes in the Creation Suite have been supposedly rebuilt from the ground up and repolished to be better than 2K’s predecessor.
- It appears that 2K have added new base models to ‘Create A Superstar’ to represent every ethnicity.
- In highlighting portions of your match in replay, you now have a free camera that can move around any way you want.
- Like what has become the norm, 2K will have the largest roster in history, with supposedly close to 200 wrestlers on the roster.
- Randy Orton and Seth Rollins have been confirmed for the game.
- There is a new graphics system with all new lighting, skin and camera effects. According to people in attendance, 2K imported the 2K17 model for Randy Orton over to 2K18 with no changes and it looked completely different and much more realistic.
- For fans of the ‘Backstage Brawl,’ it will now be a larger, more interactive experience. 2K has said that it is roughly three times the size it was in 2K17. New places include a loading dock and garage area with new objects to use.
- Universe Mode has been completely rewritten. There is now ‘brand-split support’ which essentially means that you won’t be restricted to one pay-per-view a month. Storylines will start more naturally and frequently. 2K explain that altercations can lead to further altercations which result in feuds. WWE has asked them not to add a draft mode as they have the ‘Superstar Shake-Up’ which is their draft equivalent so 2K have been unable to add that, though you have the option to edit the rosters as you want.
- A new carry and drag system has been added to provide players with more options and realism while playing 2K18.
- In addition to this, a new position feeding system has been introduced to create a larger sense of realism. An example of this is being hit by a Dropkick and rolling into the corner.
- Mid-move adjustments have been added so you have the ability to change move whilst performing it if you’ve changed your mind. An example of this is lifting someone up for a Powerbomb but throwing them onto the ropes instead.
- The new square Elimination Chamber will be featured in the game. It is unknown but expected that the old style will be in the game.
- The Royal Rumble has all new AI physics to provide a more interactive, realistic experience.
- You will now be able to have eight people in the ring at any given time. This is the largest number ever for any WWE games, with the highest before 2K18 being six people. This applies to any match, including the Royal Rumble and 4 vs. 4 Tag Team matches.
- New referees will be added, though they won’t be based on real referees due to issues with licensing.
- Jojo is replacing Lillian Garcia as the ring announcer for the series.
- There is a new commentary team. It will be Michael Cole, Byron Saxton and Corey Graves. 2K have redone almost all commentary lines for this game. Additionally, it is being reported two commentators at a time will go to the Performance Center each month to record more lines. It is unknown if these will be released as updates to 2K18 or are for future iterations of the series.
- Sound profiles are now different based on arena size. In smaller arenas (such as the Full Sail NXT arena) you are able to hear a singular person chanting whilst in larger arenas the noise is much greater.
- 2K are attempting to create an entirely new crowd for 2K18.
- Online is said to be very hard for 2K to handle so do not expect any major developments here. However, 2K have said they are looking into potentially having dedicated servers for future games which will drastically improve online functionality.
- For Community Creations, 2K aim to make the 2K18 version much more similar to the way Google functions to make it much easier for players to use.
- Finally, there is a new curator for the game. This is somebody that chooses music for the game that isn’t specifically WWE.
If you would like more information on the different versions of the upcoming WWE 2K18 video game and what features they have, we have an article you can read here.
Seth Rollins has been announced as the cover star for the game and is the first member of this upcoming generation of stars to get the opportunity to grace the cover. He is featured in the trailer shown above, which we do recommend you watch. Note the people featured in that trailer, as they are likely confirmed for the game. In addition, Kurt Angle prematurely revealed that he will be the pre-order bonus DLC for WWE 2K18.
As ‘SummerSlam’ draws closer, we will likely be getting a lot of new information including the announcement of the roster. Wrestling Rumors will keep you up to date as we learn more about the new video game.
Editor’s Note:
This was fun to put together and I am very excited to get to play the game upon it’s release. I am baffled that they haven’t announced or appear to be adding a variation of GM Mode, which I recently gave my opinion on if you’d like to read that and let me know your own thoughts.
