As we previously reported, Mysterio is in negotiations with WWE to return to the company in some degree. It is well documented at this point that the luchador is not looking to work a full-time WWE schedule. WWE officials would rather Rey work a full-time schedule for them, though he remains adamant he only wants a part-time run.
On Cena’s road to ‘WrestleMania 34’ we noted that Mysterio is expected to be his opponent on the biggest stage of them all. This is assuming contract negotiations work for the former WWE Champion.
Sources close to PWInsider have confirmed that Mysterio is close to finalizing the new deal, with Triple H spearheading the negotiations with the former Superstar.
As a side note to this, some outlets reported that Mysterio had been at ‘Smackdown Live’ during the show backstage, though we have confirmation he was only at the live event the night prior in San Diego which is his hometown. He was there for further discussions.
This idea for Mysterio to return first began after his ‘Royal Rumble’ appearance which we’ve featured above, where fans were ecstatic.
At this time, Mysterio is scheduled to face wrestling icon Jushin “Thunder” Liger at ‘Strong Style Evolved’ in Long Beach, California for NJPW on March 25.
What are your thoughts on Mysterio returning? Which dream matches would you like to see?
