According to PWInsider.com, there is still a strong feeling in WWE that Friday Night Smackdown may become a live program in the near future. The belief is that it would be moving to another day, and in all likelihood, a new network.

As we detailed in December, WWE is vigorously shopping its television shows to various networks in hopes of landing a major deal. In doing so, one of the major appeals to many networks would be a live version of Smackdown. With rising production costs due to live television, it is likely that it would be necessary for a significant amount of money to be coming in in order to make it happen.

However, the report states that WWE has trademarked the word “Smackdown” in case that it could be used as a sole show title. If this is the case, it is likely that it could be turned live.

Currently, WWE tapes the show on Tuesday and airs it on Friday. It is unknown at this time as to when the new taping date would be, if it changes at all.
