Back in January, WrestlingRumors.net noted that there had been talk that Vince Russo was back with TNA in some capacity. It was believed that that time, however, that it would be kept under the covers in order to avoid much public reaction.
PWInsider.com now reports, however, that Russo is indeed involved with TNA creative, but not necessarily in the way that many would expect him to be.
According to the report, the TNA creative team is currently led by John Gaburick, who has taken on a “Vince McMahon” kind of role with the creative team. Alongside him are former WWE writer Dave Lagana, Matt Conway and former Knockout Christy Hemme. Hemme works exclusively with the Knockouts.
PWInsider says that while he’s not on that direct team, Russo acts as a creative consultant for the four. He is technically under TNA’s payroll as such. If they have an idea they want to throw of him, they may do so, and he may do so for them as well. However, he does not have any direct says over what goes on television, as Gaburick ultimately makes the final call.
The four on the main team then throw all the ideas out there, and determine what goes on the final script.
Editor’s Note
I think this is a good role for Russo. Many people know how controversial the man has been with the business in the past, but he is still a smart mind. Keeping him an arm’s distance away but still close is a good idea.
