CM Punk has officially begun his time off from WWE, and Wrestling Rumors has learned that things did not go down as planned in preparation for his intended break.

PWInsider reports that Punk was involved in a major backstage blowup in the weeks leading up to WrestleMania, and was ready to quit the company until convinced otherwise by officials. It was established at that point he would only work TV and WrestleMania 29, at which point he would take time off to heal his injured knee and rest.

Punk was supposed to be written off TV the week following WrestleMania, but WWE felt it would be counterproductive with the hot crowd cheering him. He also reportedly disagreed with the way he was to whine off, and left on his own terms this past Monday.

The reason WWE will be using The Undertaker, Triple H and Brock Lesnar is said to be directly linked to Punk’s temporary departure. It is no secret the company feels it is lacking star power, and will be using them to supplement his absence. No word is definitive on when he will be back, though speculation is he won’t be ready until SummerSlam.
