“The Immortal” Hulk Hogan and “The Icon” Sting have become major presences on the WWE scene in 2014, with Hogan making his long-awaited return to the company and the latter signing on to be a major promotional piece for the upcoming “WWE 2K15” video game.
And now, it appears there is a possibility both men will get a significant send-off at WrestleMania 31.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports WWE has left the door open for each of them to have “retirement” matches at the big event in Santa Clara, California in 2015.
Wrestling Rumors noted Thursday Sting’s name has been tossed around with the likes of The Undertaker, Triple H, John Cena and Daniel Bryan. It does not appear as of this time the 55-year-old competitor has signed a performing contract with the company, but will likely do so if the right scenario for a match at WrestleMania is put on the table.
The big news comes with Hogan, who is 61 years old. It was reported earlier this year Hogan was interested in working a match at WrestleMania 31, likely against John Cena. However, it was then said the company was not interested, and he was just working the angle for himself. He also noted he has been training for an in-ring comeback for one final bout. Cena’s name appears to be the most likely, though he has been rumored to work a match with Rusev at WrestleMania instead.
The new report says the company is at least leaving the options on the table as of now for both men to have farewell matches at the show, though it is unlikely it would be promoted in this manner.
Editor’s Note
I’ve been getting the impression WrestleMania 31 will be a very part-timer heavy show. However, there is no doubt the final matches for both men would be an enormous draw for nostalgic fans.
