Details on CM Punk Being Removed From WWE's Comic Book Series

Former WWE Superstar and current UFC fighter CM Punk is known for his love for comic books, and was a prominent fixture of the “WWE SUPERSTARS” comic book series during his time with the company. However, Punk was recently removed from the series with his departure, and is even being erased from history, as his character will reportedly be replaced in all re-prints of the stories.

According to PWInsider, this isn’t actually as much an issue with WWE as it is with his new endeavors.

Currently, Punk is writing for Marvel Comics, as he is co-penning “Thor Annual #1.” Because of this, the distributor of the other series, Paprcutz, had to remove him from the series. Papercutz commented on the move in a release back in November:

“In the just-released WWE SUPERSTARS #2 “Haze of Glory” trade paperback, co-created by Mick Foley and Shane Riches, and illustrated by Puste, a major character bids the WWE Universe a fond farewell, as he moves on to write comics for a major publisher. While this particular superstar appeared in the first eight issues of the WWE SUPERSTARS comicbook series in a major role, he unfortunately will not be appearing again in the ongoing WWE SUPERSTARS series. In fact, once the first eight issues and first two trade paperbacks go out of print, they will never again go back into print with that superstar in it—the stories will be rewritten and redrawn to feature other WWE Superstars still with the WWE. Whether or not that makes the first printings of these comics collectors’ items is something the fans will decide.”

Punk will move on to write for DC Comics in 2015 as well.
