Former UFC star Chael Sonnen was recently announced as Global Force Wrestling’s “expert analyst” for its commentary team, appearing at a press conference in Las Vegas alongside Jeff Jarrett. While fielding questions, Sonnen spoke about the state of the wrestling industry, and what drove him to GFW.

“Two families have controlled wrestling in this country throughout my lifetime and even into my father’s lifetime, and that’s the McMahons and the Jarretts. And their visions are very close. In fairness, they are very close. But there is a difference between professional wrestling and a spectacle versus entertainment. Man, I just wanted to be part of it, and I knew where it was headed.”

Additionally, Sonnen discussed how important it is GFW’s first television tapings will hail from Las Vegas.

“Anytime you can start at the top of the mountain, and that’s what Las Vegas is, you’re off to a good start.”

Sonnen was revealed alongside the rest of the GFW roster. Several former WWE and TNA names are a part of the crowd, alongside multiple “legends.” For example, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, Jim Cornette and Scott Steiner will bare the GFW name on its first promotional tours. WWE Hall of Famer Scott Hall had initially been slated to appear, but had his billing revoked following an alleged relapse at a wrestling event in New Jersey.

Editor’s Note

Sonnen is well-spoken and should be a big get for the company. We’ll see what his role ends up being in the end.
