It’s that special day of the year—WrestleMania. It’s WWE’s gala event, a combination of big wrestling matches, celebrity appearances, and a scale of production rarely seen in the sports entertainment world. As a hardcore fan, it’s tough not to be disappointed with the card going into the show, given how many dream matches we were inches away from seeing, and the stars who aren’t on the show this year. But come on, it’s WrestleMania.
Everyone thought the SmackDown Women’s Division would stand entirely in the shadow of the women on Raw, but a combination of smart booking and some surprising displays of talent have kept the blue brand’s women fresh. Alexa Bliss was set to defend the title against “every available woman on SmackDown,” a list which in theory includes five people, but we suspected there might be a few surprises.
The six competitors ended up being the entire field, and it was a brief, energetic match set between more major events. Naomi forced Alexa to tap out in order to win the title in a hometown WrestleMania moment.
