Hopes for the DELIGHTFUL return of Matt and Jeff Hardy–now “Broken” Matt and Brother Nero–to return to WWE seemed to be dashed when it was announced they were signing with Ring of Honor. But the Hardys’ futures aren’t set in stone just yet.
According to today’s episode of Wrestling Observer Radio (subscription required), there’s been no word on exactly how long the Matt and Jeff’s contracts will last, but the impression given is that the stay will be “short.”
It seems the Hardys are not yet booked for any independent matches past May, and that might be indicative that they’ll be moving on to bigger arenas following their stay.
With ROH, the Hardys are scheduled to appear at the company’s 15th anniversary event this weekend in Las Vegas, and to wrestle on the TV tapings which take place the following night. The Young Bucks will challenge for the ROH Tag Titles on April 1st, just a day before WrestleMania.
That alone is reason to set off speculation about a WWE return for Matt and Jeff, and some will certainly jump to the conclusion that their ROH contract was only intended as something to do in the interim while discussions with WWE were finalized. Just remember–nothing’s final until you see them on TV.
The fact that the Hardys have been in talks with WWE seems at this point indisputable, and the future of the brothers is still up in the air. We’ll keep you updated.
