Given Samoa Joe’s absence from recent NXT programming and his legendary career, it doesn’t take insider knowledge to guess that he’ll be on the main roster soon. Whether that debut occurs at the Royal Rumble remains to be seen, but it seems Joe’s WrestleMania opponent may already be decided.
That opponent is none other than John Cena, according to Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The match isn’t set in stone, but is floating backstage, and would make a great deal of sense for both competitors.
Previously, it was suggested that Cena would take on the Undertaker at WrestleMania, but plans recently changed. Current reports suggest that it’s Roman Reigns who will be taking on the Deadman on WWE’s grand stage.
While Samoa Joe’s main roster debut at the Royal Rumble this Sunday has been heavily rumored, nothing concrete has yet been reported. And it seems WWE is taking steps to curtail any attempt to spoil the surprise, since it seems every single member of the NXT roster will be backstage on Sunday.
But again, given Joe’s disappearance from NXT, it would be more surprising if he didn’t show up in the Rumble. If that leads to a match with Cena, all the better.
