We’ve been waiting for Samoa Joe to hit the main roster ever since he first appeared in NXT. He’s one of the most veteran wrestlers in the world, and while his presence helped to solidify NXT’s position through one of its weaker periods, there’s no denying that he’d be a tremendous addition to the main roster.
He reclaimed the NXT Championship from Shinsuke Nakamura at TakeOver: Toronto in a surprising victory. Most of all surprising because we expected the loss of the title to mean he’d be hitting the main roster sooner rather than later. However, the King of Strong Style took back the title in Osaka, and defended it again from Joe in a Steel Cage in Australia.
Samoa Joe’s definitive defeat in the title feud has renewed speculation that he’ll be hitting the main roster soon. Joe also made no appearance at the recent NXT television tapings, adding further fire for speculation.
The obvious possibility would have Joe make his debut in the Royal Rumble, but without an apparent opponent to occupy the Submission Machine’s attention at TakeOver: San Antonio, he could make his debut even sooner.
Still, popular speculation continues to place Joe as a surprise Rumble entrant. We’re unable to pin down a reliable source for this talk, but the pieces are all in place–and we’d certainly be excited to see a legend like Joe finally step into a main roster ring at the Royal Rumble.
