WWE has confirmed that there will be a Triple Threat Match between Rob Van Dam, Jack Swagger, and Cesaro at WWE “Extreme Rules” on May 4. The match was previously rumored, but was made official just after the April 28 edition of “Monday Night Raw” went off-the-air.

The history building up to a match including Van Dam has been short, but effective. Cesaro and Swagger had obviously been tag team partners for a long period of time prior to their split at WrestleMania XXX. A match between the two former Real Americans at “Extreme Rules” seemed inevitable just minutes removed from their dissension on the Grandest Stage of Them All.

However, all three men were then featured in the recent tournament to determine the No. 1 Contender for the Intercontinental Championship, and the build towards this match would change ever so slightly. Swagger would cost Cesaro his shot at winning the tournament during his Semi-Finals bout with Van Dam, further driving home the need for a match between the former partners. Following the match, Cesaro and his advocate, Paul Heyman, would then interact with Van Dam in a heated segment, which would begin to tease Van Dam’s addition to the fold.

During the April 28 edition of “Monday Night Raw,” which would see Van Dam featured in the tournament’s Final round, both Cesaro and Swagger would make their way to the ring to interfere with the bout. Cesaro would even shake Van Dam off the top rope just before his attempt at a Five Star Frog Splash, costing him a shot at the Intercontinental Championship.

This would lead to the match being confirmed. Cesaro, Swagger, and Van Dam will now face each other in a must-see Triple Threat Match at “Extreme Rules” on May 4.

Editor’s Note:
Sold. This will be a match that I will be locked to the TV set for. STOKED for this one.
