AT&T U-Verse will not carry WWE “Extreme Rules” on May 4. AT&T U-Verse now joins the likes of DirecTV and DISH Network as a company that will no longer carry every WWE “Special Event,” which is the company’s new term for what has been more affectionately referred to as a Pay-Per-View event over the last 20 years.

DISH Network was the first company to publicly announce that they would not provide WWE PPV events for their subscribers due to WWE’s launch of the WWE Network. WWE Network offers each month’s Special Event at the low price of $9.99, which not only gives WWE Network subscribers access to that event, but also provides hours of new and exclusive WWE content, as well as access to the company’s vast entertainment library.

DirecTV was the next satellite provider to drop WWE PPVs from their On-Demand services, voicing similar opinions and view-points as DISH. AT&T U-Verse now joins the two satellite powerhouses in refusing to carry WWE events. Although neither of the three will carry “Extreme Rules,” each company claims that they will evaluate each event monthly and determine whether or not they want to provide it for their subscribers.

Editor’s Note:
Looks like this trend is only going to continue from here. Who’s next? Comcast and all of the other cable providers? THEN what will WWE do? I’ll tell you what they’ll do. They’ll offer a MONTH of the WWE Network for free, just to get subscribers, because then the WWE Network will be the ONLY avenue for a WWE fan to watch a PPV when it airs live.
