Tommy Dreamer Competes For NXT at a Live Event in Philadelphia

Former WWE superstar and ECW Original Tommy Dreamer competed in a match with Baron Corbin during an NXT Live Event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 15. As previously reported, NXT has begun traveling on their “Road Trip” Live Event circuit, and the tour kicked off with a two-night run in Philly.

Dreamer’s surprise appearance was set up during the NXT Live Event held the night before in the same building. Corbin confronted former ECW announcer Joey Styles, who was addressing the crowd due to the nature of the city and ECW/WWE. Corbin will face former ECW Champion Rhyno at “NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable” on May 20, so naturally, Corbin got involved in the discussion regarding ECW, NXT, himself, and Rhyno.

He asked, or “demanded,” that Styles give him an ECW Original to dismember on May 15, and Styles agreed to the challenge. While other ECW and WWE alumni were immediately rumored to be Corbin’s opponent, such as Bully Ray (Bubba Ray Dudley), Rob Van Dam, or “Lionheart” Chris Jericho, the man who would walk through the curtain was Mr. E.C.FU*KING.W himself, Tommy Dreamer.

While Dreamer’s surprise appearance was a one-off, likely due to his day-in, day-out management of his own wrestling promotion, House of Hardcore, other rumors surrounding WWE outsiders joining the NXT brand have been running rampant. It was speculated that former TNA Champion Samoa Joe has signed at least a two-year deal with NXT and will be making his debut on May 20 at “NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable,” but this has yet to be confirmed by WWE or Joe himself.
