Sheamus has won the Money in the Bank briefcase and will now have a guaranteed WWE World Heavyweight Championship match anytime between now and June 14, 2016. Sheamus defeated Roman Reigns, Neville, Dolph Ziggler, Randy Orton, Kane, and Kofi Kingston in the 2015 Money in the Bank Ladder Match at the Pay-Per-View event of the same name on June 14.
Sheamus now has the chance to “cash-in” his Money in the Bank briefcase, which contains a contract for a WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match, and face-off against whoever holds the gold. Sheamus was initially supposed to win the Intercontinental Championship until plans were changed last minute going into “Elimination Chamber.”
Many believed Reigns would win the Money in the Bank briefcase. Reigns was originally slated to win the WWE title at WrestleMania 31 on March 29, but plans were changed after his 2015 Royal Rumble win was received extremely negatively.
WWE officials then tried everything in the book to get Reigns over as a babyface, even a vote of confidence from fan favorite Daniel Bryan, but fans weren’t having any of it. So, in the days leading up to WrestleMania, plans were changed and Seth Rollins was informed that he would be cashing his Money in the Bank contract and stealing the WWE Championship away from Reigns and then champion Brock Lesnar.
While it is unsure of when Sheamus will use his newly acquired contract for a shot at the title. One would believe that Sheamus could cash-in on Dean Ambrose if Ambrose wins the strap in the main event at “Money In The Bank,” or Lesnar if Lesnar was to regain the title from Rollins at “Battleground” in July.
