New reports claim Prince Devitt has officially signed a WWE contract and an announcement regarding the signing is imminent. As previously reported, WWE has been interested in Devitt for some time, and over the Spring of 2014 came to terms with the “Indy” superstar. PWInsider.com is reporting that the ink has just dried on a new WWE deal containing Devitt’s signature.
Devitt is an Irish superstar that recently competed for New Japan Pro Wrestling. He has been the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, NWA World Historic Middleweight Champion, NWA British Commonwealth Heavyweight Champion, IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion, and two-time winner of the “Best of the Super Juniors” tournament.
During his final reign as IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, Devitt was the leader of the popular stable known as the Bullet Club. The faction has current members and alumni such as former TNA World Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles, former WWE and TNA superstar Drew Hankinson, who you may know as his WWE personas Festus and Luke Gallows, as well as his TNA gimmick, DOC. Hankinson is competing under the name Doc Gallows in NJPW.
WWE is expected to announce Devitt’s signing soon, much like they did with Japanese superstar KENTA. Devitt is an internationally known superstar that brings a lot of innovative offense and creative attires to WWE. Many wonder whether or not Devitt will be given a certain gimmick upon his arrival to World Wrestling Entertainment. One thing is for sure, he’ll likely not be able to paint himself up like Venom, Punisher, or Carnage due to copyrights and licenses registered to Marvel Comics, not Devitt or WWE.
Editor’s Note:
I’m stoked to see Devitt in WWE, as long as they don’t give him a character like Fandango or something. He needs to be allowed to paint himself up and be who he is, even though he won’t be able to appear as the comic book symbiotic characters.
