An article published by the Associated Press has revealed details surrounding Brock Lesnar’s new three-year contract with WWE, which will run until March 23, 2018. As previously reported, Lesnar announced that he had signed a new deal with the company while appearing on ESPN’s “Sports Center” on March 24.

Lesnar told the AP that he had been training for a return to the Octagon and didn’t make the decision to stay in professional wrestling until WWE increased their offer financially. When they presented him with a better contract (in his eyes) on March 23 backstage during “Monday Night Raw,” he decided to stay with the company that has employed him the previous three years.

The current WWE World Heavyweight Champion said,

“The fighter in me wants to continue, but at this stage in my life, it ain’t just about me anymore. You put your pride to the side. You hug your wife and your kids. I’m a 37-year-old man, and some days I feel like I’m 80, just with all the things I’ve experienced, all the things I’ve done. I feel fortunate about it. It’s like, what else can I do? Why go backward?”

Lesnar also goes on to talk about the kind of offer he turned down from UFC to stay in WWE, saying that they offered him “10-times” what he made during his initial run in the promotion. He says,

“Lorenzo said to me, ‘Can we sharpen our pencil? Can we double it?’ I said, ‘It’s not about that. I’m calling you to tell you where my heart is, and it’s not about the money.’

And then in the back of my mind, I’m thinking, ‘Well, yeah, it is about the money, but I don’t have to beat myself up for it.’ To prepare for another MMA fight, we’re talking 16, 18 weeks of pure hell, and then the cage door shuts and it’s on.”

The Beast Incarnate will face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 31, defending the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the main event. According to previous reports, Lesnar’s character will shift soon, possibly as early as March 29 at WrestleMania, and a run as a babyface (good guy) is eminent. With three years left to go in WWE, a change in persona is likely to happen sooner than later.

Editor’s Note:

Freakin, A! Three more years with the Beast.
