Former WWE Champion CM Punk recently sat down with Jon Robinson from ESPN and had a lot of interesting things to say about WrestleMania 29, how he feels about The Rock being WWE Champ and rarely on TV, what he wants to do after this year’s biggest PPV, and much more.
Robinson asked Punk about facing The Undertaker at WrestleMania 29 and how “ending the streak” could affect his legacy. “I think it would do something tremendous for anybody’s legacy. Some people get excited just because they’re wrestling The Undertaker at WrestleMania, but I’m not really in awe of anybody I wrestle; I’m here to beat him. It’s one of the only things I can possibly do to top my career moment I had in Las Vegas when I cut that infamous promo,” Punk says.
Robinson also mentions that The Rock ended Punk’s historic WWE Championship reign, but then was too busy to be on every Raw leading up to WrestleMania. When asked if he thinks that it is bad for the company when the champion isn’t showing up on it’s programs, Punk responds with, “I do, yeah, but it’s not my company, so that’s where we are with that. [laughs]”
Punk also mentions which WrestleMania match he’s looking forward to watching. “Fandango versus Chris Jericho. You probably don’t believe me, but it’s true. I can’t remember the last time somebody debuted at WrestleMania, and Fandango is actually one hell of a talent, so I’m excited to see where this goes. Besides, it’s Chris Jericho. You can’t go wrong with a Chris Jericho match,” Punk says.
When asked about Punk and Cena’s recent and classic Raw encounter for the #1 Contender spot for WrestleMania, Robinson asked if the “pile driver” was still a banned move and did he get in trouble for using it? Punk responds with, “I sure did. It has a bad history of injuries and accidents, so it’s better safe than sorry. It’s really sort of not worth it, but I wanted to show that I was really trying to win that damn match.”
When asked about what Punk would want to do after WrestleMania, he said, “I would honestly love to tag with Brock Lesnar. If it was up to me, I would do that and take on Kane and Daniel Bryan or Dolph (Ziggler) and Big E., whoever has the straps after WrestleMania.”
Punk talks about his favorite/most inspirational WrestleMania match, facing or tagging with Brock Lesnar, the next WWE video game, and more in the entire interview. You can read it on ESPN.com.
