2. Charlotte Flair
The placement of this entry is not about family legacy or personal bias.
It is about two words: revolution and statistics.
2016 has been the year of women’s wrestling, and no one has done more for the advancement of the division than Charlotte Flair. Not only has she held a WWE Women’s Championship for most of the calendar year, over the course of the year, she competed in some of the most historic matches in the history of women’s wrestling.
An amazing triple threat match at WrestleMania. Main eventing “Monday Night Raw” in championship matches twice. The first ever women’s “Hell in a Cell” match. An incredible “Falls Count Anywhere” match. The first ever female Iron Man Match on the main roster.
Now, many will argue that Sasha Banks could just as easily have been put in this place on the list, because she was with Flair every step of the way during her rise to the top.
So, what gives Charlotte the nod? Simple. The numbers.
Charlotte is not only a 4-time “Raw” Women’s Champion, but she is also 15-0 in singles matches at pay-per-views in 2016, and is a staggering 18-2 overall. It is the best start to any pay-per-view career in this history of the company, both male and female. Better than Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar.
Combine her incredibly wrestling ability with her talent for cutting scathing promos and drawing unbelievable natural heel heat from the audience, and you have a combination that is tough to beat.
Love her or hate her, Charlotte has changed the game for women’s wrestling forever. And all that’s left to say about that is a resounding “WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!”
