Since the brand split in July of this year, “Smackdown Live” has been providing the WWE Universe with a new way of looking at professional wrestling. We have seen new and innovated storylines, a focus on physical wrestling as opposed to pure entertainment, and an atmosphere that is unlike anything we’ve seen in the company for quite some time.

There are some incredible people that call “Smackdown Live” their home. John Cena, AJ Styles, Dean Ambrose, The Miz, Becky Lynch and others, give us intense, hard-hitting wrestling action, as well as creative and memorable promos on the microphone.

However, there is one member of the blue brand that supersedes them all, and is the true MVP of the show each week. He is the voice of the show, and is directly linked with the outstanding programming that we see each week.

In my opinion, the most important person associated with “Smackdown Live,” is the leader of their commentary team, Mauro Ranallo.

There is nothing like the atmosphere of attending a live WWE show. The interaction with the fans, the stuff that goes on when the cameras aren’t rolling, and the feelings that you get when your favorite superstar’s music comes through the curtain creates an experience that undoubtedly provides memories that last a lifetime.

However, most weeks, the average wrestling fan watches sports entertainment from the comfort of their own home. And to add to the experience of what we see, we rely on the commentary team to not only provide us with additional energy and excitement, but also to educate both the hardcore fans, as well as the newcomers, to the sport which is happening on their television screens.

Ranallo fits that build and so much more. His intimate knowledge of every single move that is happening the ring is incredibly impressive, and watching “Smackdown Live” makes you feel like you are learning more about the science of being an in-ring performer.

In addition, he has a unique gift to seamlessly integrate pop culture and current events into what is going on with the product, and reach out to all generations of wrestling fans. His ability to relate what is happening in the squared circle to what is happening in the world gives wrestling a sense of importance and legitimacy that is sometimes missing to the casual viewer.

But more importantly than that, is the enthusiasm and energy that Ranallo gives off every time that he speaks. His pure love for the wrestling industry comes out every time that he opens his mouth, you can’t help but be emotionally invested in what the performers are doing. In addition, his quick wit and natural excitement of spectacular moves heighten the experience of watching “Smackdown Live” even more.

Throughout the years, there have been some legendary commentators in the wrestling business. Jim Ross, Bobby Heenan, Mike Tenay and Joey Styles to name a few. However, I truly feel that in time, Ranallo will be included in that list. He has a unique commentating style that fits perfectly with the current WWE product, and makes everything about watching from home that much better.

Mauro Ranallo is the best part of “Smackdown Live.” There’s not a doubt in my mind.
