One of the biggest stories in recent weeks is the news that Dean Ambrose will not be renewing his WWE contract after Wrestlemania 35. This was even confirmed by the company, as they posted an official article regarding the situation.
Last night on Raw, however, we witnessed a great moment, as Ambrose reunited The Shield with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. They will take on the team of Baron Corbin, Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley this Sunday at Fastlane.
You can see a clip of that reunion below:
However, I’ve been thinking about this for a while and wondering what the best way for The Lunatic Fringe to exit the company should be. I had an idea, but wasn’t sure if it would be feasible or not. After watching last night’s Raw, however, I do think that this idea will work.
In my opinion, Dean Ambrose should leave WWE by facing Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 35. And, he should win.
Now, obvious logic would tell us that there’s no way that WWE would allow someone who is leaving the company to get a victory in his exit match. Combine that with the fact The Big Dog just returned to the company from his battle with leukemia and all signs would tell us that there’s no way that Ambrose will get the job done.
However, this is all the more reason to make it happen. Not just for the shock factor, as everyone will expect Reigns to win, but for several other reasons as well.
First, if by booking Ambrose to get a victory over one of the biggest superstars in WWE on the biggest stage of them all, it could entice him to stick around and renew his contract. The company would definitely love that, as they don’t want him to leave.
However, if Ambrose does still decide to go, it could open a myriad of storylines going forward. It could cause Reigns and Rollins to feud after Wrestlemania, as Rollins could say that Reigns couldn’t get the job done against the guy that stabbed them in the back. This would especially work if The Architect defeats Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship.
Finally, if he does decide to return to the company in the future, it would allow him to leave on good terms, thus opening up more amicable talks down the road.
Another twist to this is Ambrose’s wife, Renee Young, who is one of the commentators on Raw. Last night, the commentary team acknowledged the fact that Ambrose was leaving, and Young could add another level of reality to this storyline.
She could get into a tense war of words with Corey Graves and storm off of the set, much like Don West did to Mike Tenay a few years ago in TNA. Also, she could somehow get involved and cut a promo on Reigns as they get closer to the event, breaking the fourth wall. This will make this feud all the more real and will increase the interest from the fans.
So, how do we set this up? Simple. Have Ambrose turn on his Shield brethren this Sunday and continue his run as a heel.
If Dean Ambrose does end up leaving WWE, it will be a tough blow for them, as he is one of their top workers. However, I think by having him defeat Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 35, it will be best for business for all involved.
