Forbes Says Kevin Owens vs. Brock Lesnar Is a Mistake

It has been previously reported that WWE was has been discussing booking Kevin Owens vs. Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania 32. It is no secret that this would be a dream match-up in the eyes of many wrestling fans, however, Forbes has released an article stating that this would be a huge mistake for the future of the company.

The article compares Kevin Owens to Seth Rollins, Daniel Bryan, Hideo Itami, Sami Zayn and Cesaro as independent wrestlers who now work for WWE, and because of this are more susceptible to injury. Because Lesnar is such a physical threat, Alfred Konuwa suggests that the likelihood that Owens would be injured would increase, and that would be a huge blow to WWE, as he is such a valuable asset to the company.

Simply sharing the ring with Lesnar is an honor that will almost immediately establish younger wrestlers as main eventers. But if Owens is to go down with an injury following a potentially career-defining victory over Lesnar, WWE would once again be left to piece together a makeshift roster.

It’s becoming quite clear that building a roster around a core group of physical, independent wrestlers is not a sound strategy. And while these stars have an edge in connecting with audiences due to their built-in fanbases, it behooves WWE to move in a different direction and opt for more home-grown talents who aren’t as liable to get hurt.

I don’t buy this for one second. I have been hoping for this match since Kevin Owens debuted this past summer, and I’ve said multiple times on Twitter that I think Owens is one of the only legitimate threats on the main roster to Brock Lesnar. I think most fans would agree that this match would be an absolute classic, and could propel Owens to the top of the WWE roster; a position that he so rightly deserves.
