However, Punk tried to up the ante at the official weigh-in yesterday, by refusing to shake his opponent’s after both competitors made the official contracted weight limit of 170 pounds:
When asked about it, he simply said “I’m not here to shake anybody’s hand. I’m here to punch people in the face:”
CM Punk’s debut in UFC has been in the works for almost two years. Ever since it was reported that he had signed a deal to compete in “The Octagon” on December 6, 2014, both the wrestling world and MMA world have wondered when his first match would take place.
There have been complications and push backs in his debut during the time. Although it was announced that Gall would be Punk’s first opponent in January of this year, many questions have been asked as to when this fight would actually take place. One of the complications that arose was Punk having to undergo back surgery in February.
It should also be noted that as of yesterday, the current betting odds on the fight are Gall at -400 (1/4) and Punk at +300 (3/1).
Editor’s Note:
This doesn’t surprise me one bit. Punk is trying to create more buzz for tonight’s fight, which is completely understandable. It would be great for both WWE and UFC if Punk performs well and has a great outing. That being said, I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I hope he gets knocked out early in this thing to shut him up.
