It had been previously reported that Vince McMahon is rebooting his XFL franchise and that the league will begin play in February 2020.
However, one of the biggest questions has been which teams would have franchises? That question was answered in a press conference a couple of days ago. You can see the complete announcement of the cities that will be hosting teams below:
CBS Sports has summarized which cities will host teams and where they will be playing:
City: Dallas
Stadium: Globe Life Park in Arlington (Arlington, Texas)
City: Houston
Stadium: TDECU Stadium (Houston, Texas)
City: Los Angeles
Stadium: StubHub Center (Carson, California)
City: New York
Stadium: MetLife Stadium (East Rutherford, New Jersey)
City: Seattle
Stadium: CenturyLink Field (Seattle, Washington)
City: St. Louis
Stadium: The Dome at America’s Center (St. Louis, Missouri)
City: Tampa
Stadium: Raymond James Stadium (Tampa, Florida)
City: Washington, D.C.
Stadium: Audi Field (Washington, D.C.)
According to a report from this week’s edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Vince McMahon will own all eight teams, and will appoint Team Presidents and General Managers/Coaches for each franchise.
They are also looking to sign major name players and quarterbacks in 2019, as well as try to fill the rosters with players cut from NFL teams before and during the 2019 season. They’ll also do local tryouts for each team.
Editor’s Opinion:
From what I can tell, all of these cities have strong football fanbases, and the people in these cities want their football to continue once the Super Bowl is over. These are safe places to host XFL teams, and I hope that it is as successful as everyone wants it to be!
