During the Aug. 10 edition of “Monday Night Raw,” Randy Orton took what was seen as a cheap shot at Kevin Owens, poking fun at his weight in front of the WWE Universe.
During an edition of “Wrestling Observer Radio” following WWE “Battleground,” Meltzer noted how there are two groups of people in the company: those who are rooting for Owens and those who are against his push.
Per Wrestlezone.com, there were reports released last year that WWE’s Executive Vice President of Television Production Kevin Dunn would go out of his way to bury former NXT talent, including Adam Rose and Bo Dallas. The plan was for Dunn to stick it to the likes of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, who have both been behind the rise of the NXT brand since its inception.
Owens is scheduled to challenge Finn Balor for the NXT Championship at “NXT Takeover: Brooklyn” on Aug. 22, with a non-confirmed bout against Cesaro awaiting him the following night at WWE “SummerSlam.”
Editor’s Note
Look, it’s painfully obvious to the untrained eye that Owens doesn’t look like John Cena. He’s unique, appearing like the average everyday man. Fans love that they can relate to him. Even if he doesn’t have a six-pack stomach or the largest arms on the planet, the man is still one of the top in-ring performers WWE has. Those officials, or whoever is against his rise to fame, need to back off and let Owens thrive.
