In a 20-man Battle Royal on the May 5 edition of “Monday Night RAW,” Sheamus eliminated Shield member Dean Ambrose last to become the new WWE United States Champion.

This is the second United States Championship reign for Sheamus. He defeated Daniel Bryan for his first on March 14, 2011.

Some of the other superstars in the Battle Royal included Big Show, Mark Henry, Jack Swagger, Cody Rhodes, Kofi Kingston and Fandango.

Ambrose’s reign lasted 352 days, making it the longest in WWE history.

Editor’s Note

Sheamus couldn’t even get on the “WWE Extreme Rules” card Sunday night, but less than 24 hours later, he’s the new United States Champion. I don’t know what to think about this. Did he really need a meaningless mid-card title?
