Sheamus has been out of action since losing his WWE United States Championship to Rusev in an exclusive match on the WWE Network.
WWE.com posted the following on their website the following day, confirming that “The Celtic Warrior” was hurt:
[Sheamus] is suffering from a left cervical neurapraxia (stinger in arm), bone spurring, narrowing of the spinal canal (spinal stenosis) and narrowing of the nerve canals (neuroforaminal) along with nerve compression in his neck.”
According to a report by PWInsider.com, Sheamus may be returning at the tapings for the Jan. 22 edition of “Smackdown.”
The belief is that Sheamus’ return would be a good way to help promote the show being on Thursday nights.
The plan moving forward is for him to work as a heel. There’s no word yet on whether that turn will take place immediately or not.
Daniel Bryan vs. Kane is confirmed for “Smackdown.” If Bryan loses, he will forfeit his opportunity to be in the “Royal Rumble” match. Perhaps this would be a perfect opportunity for Sheamus’ heel turn, but that remains to be seen.
Editor’s Note
Unless Daniel Bryan wins the “Royal Rumble” on Jan. 25, the safe bet would be for him to work a program with a heel Sheamus. That was originally slated for WrestleMania 30 last year before Bryan’s epic run.
