Former ECW Champion and three-time Intercontinental Champion John Morrison hasn’t been seen in a WWE ring since the Nov. 28, 2011 edition of “Monday Night Raw.”

His last match came against The Miz in a Falls Count Anywhere match for the WWE Championship.

Morrison was stretchered away afterwards as an injury angle after taking Miz’ finisher on the steel ramp. WWE.com acknowledged the next day that his contract with the company had come to an end.

During a recent appearance on Chris Jericho’s “Talk is Jericho” podcast, Morrison revealed why he never returned to WWE.

“They wanted me to sign for 5-years,” Morrison said. “I might not be able to move the way I did in my prime, and I figured if I wanted to do an action movie the way I wanted to, the time is now.”

Morrison also revealed that he needed to take time off to recover from a neck injury he had surgery on early in 2011.

Triple H and John Laurinaitis insisted that he return quickly before his injuries were fully healed, although Morrison elected to take more time off anyways.

Since his stint with WWE, Morrison has shot several independent action films and is currently set to compete for the new Lucha Underground promotion.

Editor’s Note

WWE isn’t the end-all, be-all of the world. If making movies is something John wanted to do, all the power to him. He’s clearly happy with his decision and rightfully so.
