One of the hottest wrestling topics throughout the past few months has been the situation between Alberto Del Rio and WWE. It all began when Del Rio was released by WWE on Aug. 7, 2014 for slapping WWE social media worker Cody Barbierri, who had reportedly made racist comments behind Del Rio’s back.

In addition to being released, Del Rio was issued a lengthy non-compete clause, which once prevented him from wrestling for AAA. It also still prevents him from wrestling in its new “Lucha Underground” series.  As expected, Del Rio would end up fighting the non-compete clause by filing a lawsuit against WWE for the abnormally long non-compete clause.

According to FightNetwork.com, a settlement is close to being had by WWE and Alberto Del Rio, real name Jose Alberto Rodriguez. It is unknown what the resolution will mean for Del Rio’s non-compete clause, but an announcement from one, or both of the sides is expected in the near future.

In addition to receiving the standard 90-day non-compete clause, Del Rio was also banned from wrestling in the United States for one year. The latter clause is most likely what Del Rio is fighting, as he has been able to wrestle abroad in AAA, upon his lawyers resolving the 90-day non-compete clause, for the time being, back in early September.

Editor’s Note

It will certainly be interesting to see what the resolution is. Del Rio being to wrestle in the USA opens a lot of possibilities.
