There’s a very strong possibility that the “Title for Title” match at WWE “SummerSlam” won’t take place.
Last week on “Monday Night Raw,” WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins challenged United States Champion John Cena to put both of their belts on the line at the pay-per-view, although Cena has yet to accept publicly. He’s currently on the shelf after surgery from a broken nose he suffered at the hands of Rollins during “Raw” on July 27.
If Cena can’t compete, WWE will reportedly have the option to book a Triple Threat match between Rollins, Randy Orton, and “Mr. Money in the Bank” Sheamus instead, says Dave Meltzer of “Wrestling Observer Radio.”
Sheamus cost Orton his chance at the championship last night on “Raw,” with “The Viper” striking back as “The Celtic Warrior” was set to cash-in his briefcase.
If Cena is cleared to wrestle, WWE will resort back to their original plans of Cena facing Rollins, and Orton taking on Sheamus in what could end up being a gimmick match.
Orton pinned Sheamus cleanly last month at WWE “Battleground.”
Editor’s Note
The Rollins-Orton-Sheamus Triple Threat doesn’t do it for me. At least with Cena in the picture, the possibility of a double champion remains on the table, as does another cash-in by Sheamus.
