As we previously reported here at WrestlingRumors.net, the initial subscriber numbers for the WWE Network came in at 667,287, which dates back to its February launch.
A week before the numbers were announced publicly, it was revealed that the investment community would have been satisfied with 1 million subscribers. Even then, they were predicting more.
Anything less than 850,000 subscribers would have been considered disappointing, although it would still be a number WWE could build upon quickly.
Over the next several years, the IC is projecting three to four times the amount of subscribers than what the Network is currently doing.
Although the IC and WWE are optimistic about the future, 667,287 subscribers is far lower than where they believed they’d be at this time.
Editor’s Note
The success of the WrestleMania XXX stream on April 6 should help calm the minds of fans who were skeptical of how the Network would run live events. The less problems the Network has, the easier it will be for non-subscribers to jump on the bandwagon and throw $9.99 a month down for the service.
