On Tuesday, Jan. 21, WWE taped the Jan. 22 edition of “WWE Main Event” along with the Jan. 24 edition of “WWE Smackdown” in Grand Rapids, Mich. in the Van Andel Arena.Thanks to WrestlingRumors.net reader and Twitter user @ImEggscellent for providing us with the following spoilers!
Below are the spoilers for the Jan. 24 edition of “WWE Smackdown:”
It should be noted that Michael Cole was not apart of the announce team for “WWE Smackdown,” which he and JBL usually call. Josh Matthews was with JBL instead.
1) Big Show and Rey Mysterio def. The Real Americans- Mysterio and Show picked up the victories after the former leapt off of Show’s shoulders. After the match, Paul Heyman came out to cut a promo on Big Show as his client Brock Lesnar will face him at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.
2) The Miz def. Brodus Clay- Bad News Barrett interrupts and does commentary from his podium. After winning, The Miz went after Barrett.
3) Divas Champion AJ Lee def. Cameron
The Shield are shown on the big screen and cut a promo about the 30-man Royal Rumble match.
4) Ryback and Curtis Axel def. Los Matadores
Next, CM Punk cuts a promo on the 30-man Royal Rumble match. He reiterates that The Authority has it out for him. Kane’s music hits and he talks about the slim chance that Punk has of winning due to entering at number one.
5) Erick Rowan and Luke Harper def. The Prime Time Players- After the relatively quick match, Bray Wyatt entered the ring and hit “Sister Abigail” on Darren Young. He then cuts a promo on Daniel Bryan, saying that he will not only beat him at the Royal Rumble but he will also hurt him. Bryan then comes out to cheers and says he fears no one.
The newest Diva, Emma, is shown in the crowd.
6) Kofi Kingston def. Fandango
7) The Shield and The New Age Outlaws vs. WWE Tag Team Champions Cody Rhodes and Goldust, The Usos, and Big E Langston ends in a disqualification- After the match, all hell breaks loose as everyone, including the locker room, brawls to build-up the 30-man Royal Rumble match.
The dark match to close the show sees Punk defeat Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose in a handicap match by utilizing his “GTS.”
