On Tuesday, Dec. 2, WWE taped the Dec. 5 showing of “Smackdown,” the first in the month of December for 2014. The event was taped from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the Chesapeake Energy Arena.
Below are the spoilers for the Dec. 5 edition of “Smackdown:”
The show opened with Santino Marella, who announced that he is the special guest general manager for the night. Additionally, he plugged WWE Studios’ “Jingle All the Way 2,” which he stars in with Larry the Cable Guy.
1. Dolph Ziggler def. Luke Harper via disqualification in an Intercontinental Championship match- The opening bout on “Smackdown” saw Dolph Ziggler challenge Luke Harper for the Intercontinental Championship. Harper retained his title by getting himself disqualified. The former Wyatt Family member kicked Ziggler below the belt, causing the disqualification. Afterwards, Harper obtained a ladder, trying to powerbomb Ziggler on it. However, Ziggler turned the tables, hitting a facebuster on Harper, who landed on the ladder. Harper would end up retreating, as Ziggler tossed the ladder towards the fleeing big man.
Santino then came out to announce that the two men will face each other in a Ladder match at “TLC” for the Intercontinental Championship.
Next, Seth Rollins, Jamie Noble, Joey Mercury, Kane, and Big Show came out to cut a promo. Rollins began, recalling how he put John Cena through a table on “Monday Night Raw.” Show then began to speak, hyping his Stairs match with Erick Rowan. Show taunted “Big Red” by slamming the steel steps together. Kane, who will face Ryback in a Chairs match, plugged his match by saying he will feed Ryback chair after chair. Santino appeared to tell everybody to calm down. He made the main event for the evening, a tag team match pitting Seth Rollins and Big Show against Ryback and Erick Rowan.
2. Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston (w/ Big E) def. Cesaro and Tyson Kidd (w/ Natalya)- The New Day continued to look strong, as Xavier Woods picked up the pinfall for the trio. After the match, Stardust and Goldust appeared on the titantron. They mocked the positive vibes of The New Day, which led to Kofi Kingston challenging them to a match in the future.
Backstage, Naomi received flowers. Jimmy Uso came along, telling her he did not send them. A card attached to the flowers read, “apologies from Miz.” Jimmy Uso then broke the vase the flowers were in, and stormed off.
3. Dean Ambrose vs. Rusev does not occur- First, Dean Ambrose cut a promo on Bray Wyatt, his opponent at “TLC.” Ambrose said he will prevail at “TLC,” and the mind games will end. Lana and Rusev then appeared, and Lana revealed that Rusev will not compete due to America’s intimidation. Instead, the two cut a promo on Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter, showing the beatdown of Colter from “Raw.” Ambrose, who was there to fight, began his way up the ramp to confront Rusev. However, he was met by Bray Wyatt. Wyatt beat down Ambrose, hitting him in the throat with a steel chair. Continuing the punishment, Wyatt smashed Ambrose against the steel steps with a chair. A beaten Ambrose was left to lay there, as trainers attended to him. “The Lunatic Fringe” was put in a neck brace, and stretchered away to close the segment.
4. The Miz (w/ Damien Mizdow) def. Jey Uso (w/ Jimmy Uso)- Before the match, Miz cut a promo about the situation between he, Naomi, and Jimmy Uso. Miz said he only wants to help Naomi. The Usos quickly rushed the ring, as Miz taunted Jimmy Uso. This prompted the referee to send Jimmy Uso to the back. As for the match itself, Miz picked up a victory with a “Skull Crushing Finale” thanks to a distraction from Mizdow.
5. Naomi def. Brie Bella (w/ Nikki Bella)- AJ Lee was on commentary for the bout. She would end up preventing interference from Divas Champion Nikki Bella at one point in the match. With no help from her sister, Brie ended up losing to Naomi.
Next, a backstage segment with Santino and The Bunny was shown.
6. Ryback and Erick Rowan def. Seth Rollins and Big Show (w/ Kane)- As the match came to a close, Kane was thrown out by the referee for attempting to interfere in the match. While preoccupied with Kane, the referee missed a tag between Rollins and Show. Show was kept out of the ring, as Erick Rowan caught him with a big boot. Rollins promptly argued with the referee. Upon turning around, he was met with a “Shellshock” from Ryback, who won the match for his team.
