On Tuesday, March 3, WWE taped March 5 edition of “Smackdown” in Washington D.C. at the Verizon Center.

Below are spoilers for the March 5 showing of “Smackdown” straight from the capital of the United States:

“Smackdown” opened with a promo from none other than Dolph Ziggler, who is in the ring with possession of the Intercontinental Championship. Beginning, the former Intercontinental Champion hit on not getting a rematch for the belt, following his loss to Bad News Barrett in early 2015. He would declare his entry into the multi-man Ladder match for Barrett’s Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 31.

Continuing, he said the match is missing one element: Daniel Bryan. Ziggler called Bryan out, but would be interrupted by Barrett, sans title. Barrett guaranteed his victory come WrestleMania 31, giving Ziggler two options: hand over the title now, or let him, Barrett, take it from you. Luke Harper slyly entered the fray, taking out Ziggler. The three brawled, with Ambrose entering the picture as well. As the four men fought, R-Truth sneaked towards the Intercontinental Championship, grabbing it. Truth made a clean getaway, as Ziggler and Ambrose were dumbfounded as to where the title went.

Backstage, R-Truth tried to give Renee Young the Intercontinental Championship. She declined, telling him to give it to Dean Ambrose.

1) WWE Tag Team Champions Cesaro and Tyson Kidd (w/ Natalya) def. Los Matadores (w/ El Torito) in a non-title match- Tyson Kidd picked up the win for his team, making the most of a distracted referee. His cheap tactics would pay dividends.

2) Ryback def. Kane (w/ Big Show-) Ryback took advantage of a distracted Kane, hitting him with a “Meat Hook” for the win. Following the match, Kane, the on-screen WWE Director of Operations, told Ryback to stay in the ring for another match.

3) Big Show def. Ryback- Show bested Ryback with a “KO Punch” thanks to interference from Kane.

Bray Wyatt cut his latest promo on The Undertaker, telling “The Deadman” to rise.

Another vignette hyping Sheamus’ return aired.

4) AJ Lee (w/ Paige) def. Brie Bella (w/ Nikki Bella-) Before the match, Divas Champion Nikki Bella cut a promo, referencing the #GiveDivasAChance campaign on social media. Nikki said that the campaign is not about AJ Lee. Continuing, Nikki said she has given an abundance of Divas the chance, while AJ was sidelined. In closing, Nikki stated no WWE Divas are up to the standard of The Bella Twins, but she will give AJ a chance. For the victory, AJ locked in the “Black Widow” on Brie. Nikki tried to save her overmatched sister, but was stopped from running interference by Paige.

Backstage, Renee Young interviewed Daniel Bryan. In response to the show’s open, Bryan said he is excited for the multi-man Ladder match at WrestleMania 31 for Bad News Barrett’s Intercontinental Championship. He went on to say the match may steal the show, and he is eager to see who will prevail. At no point during the interview did Bryan make it appear that he will be part of the match.

5) The New Day def. The Miz and Damien Mizdow- At one point in the bout, Mizdow tagged himself in. To the chagrin of Miz, he returned the favor. Miz got in Mizdow’s face, yelling at him for his disobedience. Miz told Mizdow to leave the ring, leading Mizdow to come face-to-face with Miz. In the end, Mizdow would leave the ring, causing The New Day to win by double-teaming Miz.

Renee Young interviewed Jack Swagger about his inclusion in the year’s Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, in addition to facing Rusev later on in the show. Swagger said he respects the new annual tradition, and also reserves the right to shut Rusev up like any Real American would.

Backstage, Roman Reigns cut a promo on his WrestleMania 31 encounter with Brock Lesnar. Reigns called Paul Heyman out for only making a living off of running his mouth. Though, Reigns would admit that Heyman was correct in saying Lesnar will hurt him. However, Reigns declared that he will take all the pain, and proceed to hit Lesnar with a “Superman Punch” and a spear.

6) United States Champion Rusev def. Jack Swagger in a non-title match- Rusev made quick work of Swagger with “The Accolade.” Following the match, Curtis Axel cut an “AxelMania” promo on the titantron. Axel said he is coming for Rusev and the United States Championship, channeling his inner Hulk Hogan.

7) Dolph Ziggler and Dean Ambrose def. Luke Harper and Bad News Barrett- Ziggler got the win for his team upon hitting Harper with a super kick, followed with a “Zig Zag.”

Following the match, Barrett attacked Ambrose and Ziggler. He then turned to R-Truth, who had been ringside, to get his belt back. Truth was about to hand it over, but Ambrose reemerged to take out Barrett. Truth tried to escape with the belt, but ran into Harper. However, Truth stunned Harper, looking again to leave. Though, this time it would be Daniel Bryan who interrupted Truth. Before leaving, Truth handed the belt to Bryan. Bryan stood tall with the “IC” title, but would be ambushed by Stardust. Stardust seized the Intercontinental Championship, and posed on top of a ladder, as “Smackdown” closed.
