WWE Hall of Famer Edge was recently a guest on Chris Jericho’s new podcast, “Talk is Jericho.” During their time together, Edge revealed some interesting information regarding both the beginning and end of his time in WWE.
When talking about his beginnings in WWE, Edge revealed that he had signed a deal with the company in 1996 that worked as a “minor league” contract. The contract that he signed would pay him at least $210 a week for continuing to work with independent promotions.
When talking about what happened after his WWE tryout, Edge said the following:
“I got called up to J.R.’s office and he goes, ‘We have a deal for you.’ It was for $210 a week because after the currency exchange, that worked out to 300 Canadian. They said just keep working. There was no farm system; they said, ‘Keep getting booked.'”
“I got signed at the end of ’96 and then I kept working. They said, ‘We’ll call you when we’re ready for you.’ And I kept going wherever I could. But now, I had $210 or 300 bucks to at least eat. It was like, ‘Here’s a little morsel so you can keep doing your thing.'”

The “Rated R Superstar” also talked about the end of his career in WWE. He talked about how he previously thought that he would slow down in the ring over a period of time before hanging them up. However, his neck issue forced him to retire well beforehand in 2011.
The four-time WWE Champion said the following regarding the end of his WWE career and how he became a part of “Haven:”
“I really thought I would relax whenever that is, but with it being sped up a couple of years with the last injury, it was then like, ‘Now what? (WWE television producer) Kevin Dunn called the ‘Haven’ people because they had been looking to have a tie-in with Smackdown. ‘Listen, we have this guy retiring. I think he could fill a good spot on your show.’ That’s kind of how that fell into place.”
