As was revealed on “Monday Night Raw” by Daniel Bryan himself and shortly before the show, the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion suffered a neck injury, and will need to undergo surgery. Today, Tuesday May 13, we reported that Bryan is expected to miss the next six-to-eight weeks, following surgery on Thursday.
PWInsider has provided a major update on the situation with Bryan. The word backstage is that Bryan is suffering from a broken neck. However, the fracture is described as minor and something that will not require complex surgery, like neck fusion surgery. Instead, Bryan’s procedure on Thursday is expected to be a simple one.
The website also echoes our previous report from F4WOnline that Bryan will likely miss the next six-to-eight weeks of action. On May 12, at “Monday Night Raw,” WWE officials were eying for Bryan to return at “SummerSlam.”
In terms of how he obtained his injury, word going around backstage is that it was not suffered during a specific match or move. Instead, this was just a result of Bryan’s in-ring style. While some people backstage believe that his injury was worsened at “Extreme Rules,” when Bryan dove from the forklift, that has not been confirmed.
Additionally, the website is reporting that the status of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship will depend upon the surgery. If nothing too bad is discovered, then the company will likely keep the belt on Bryan. However, if the company receives bad news following the procedure, he may be stripped of the title down the road. Like always, WWE may very well change its mind at any instance, no matter what kind of feedback it receives from the procedure.
Editor’s Note
As more and more is revealed on the situation, it appears Bryan’s injury is not a work, as some have speculated. If true, it’s refreshing to see that WWE would like to keep the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on Bryan, even though he will be out for at least a month. Unfortunately, it feels like Bryan keeps getting bombarded with bad news. However, as we’ve seen, nothing will keep Daniel Bryan down, and he will come out of all this even stronger.
