Prior to the June 30 edition of “Monday Night Raw” going on the air, there were rampant rumors that Chris Jericho would be returning to WWE. It all began when WWE.com published a story in regards to Triple H tweeting that a former WWE Champion would be returning on the show. In the website’s story, it was noted that the returning WWE Superstar was a cross-platform entertainer who continues to find great success outside of WWE.
Before the Jericho rumors began, many fans speculated that The Miz would be the safest option as the returning star. That would indeed be the case, as Miz entered the ring to begin the final hour of “Monday Night Raw.” Though, his opening promo would be interrupted by the returning Chris Jericho, who quickly delivered a “Codebreaker” to Miz. Unfortunately for “Y2J,” The Wyatt Family then entered, taking him out.
Following Jericho’s return, PWInsider has picked up on the story, providing many details in regards to it. The website who first broke news of Jericho’s return has noted that it will not be a brief “in and out” return. Sources within WWE informed the website that the creative team has plans for Jericho through the Night of Champions pay-per-view, which will occur on Sept. 21.
The website also reported that Jericho and WWE finalized a deal just a few days ago. Coincidentally, a Jericho return for “Money in the Bank” was teased by WWE Magazine back in May. Jericho’s return ended up being the day after “Money in the Bank.”
It also confirms previous reports that Jericho will go one-on-one with Bray Wyatt at “SummerSlam.” Continuing, it is also noted that the two will not square off at the next pay-per-view, “Battleground.”
While some may think that The Wyatt Family’s attack was a way to write Jericho off of television, leading to the match at “SummerSlam,” that does not appear to be the case. Jericho is advertised to appear during “Smackdown” tapings on July 1 from the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
Editor’s Note
It’s nice to see that Chris Jericho will be back for quite some time. It wouldn’t surprise me if he works more than three pay-per-view events, especially with the injuries mounting for WWE.
