On last Monday’s Raw, John Cena and Roman Reigns were involved in one of the most notable segments WWE has done all year, as the two appeared to be taking some pretty real shots at each other during their contract signing.
When the segment was over, most were baffled that WWE would actually allow someone to basically tell the fans that their new guy isn’t even on the old guy’s level, to the point where some actually thought that Cena went off script during the segment. However, that’s exactly how WWE scripted it.
Even though Reigns clearly wasn’t at Cena’s level on the mic, former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Edge said on his podcast, the E&C Pod of Awesomeness, that Reigns’ promo from Monday’s Raw was the best one of his entire career.
Here’s why:
“John’s been in that situation before, whether it’s with The Rock… He’s had to deal with that before, and he’s good at it. Reigns hasn’t and you could tell. You could tell that this was his first kind of like ‘oh okay, how exactly do I do this?’ I will say, it’s the best promo I’ve ever seen him do because you could tell that he really felt what he was saying. Now I think with more practice and more tune-up, he’s got it, because there’s a lot more points he could’ve hit about John that he didn’t. He could’ve speedbagged John with some of the stuff he could say, and he didn’t go there.”
