Back in December, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that WWE had officially booked three matches for WrestleMania 33: Brock Lesnar vs. Bill Goldberg, Triple H vs. Seth Rollins, and Big Show vs. Shaquille O’Neal. Now, it looks like one of the three matches isn’t going to happen.
Earlier this week, Shaq said on his podcast that the match with Big Show at WrestleMania probably won’t happen, although he didn’t completely rule it out. We don’t know what the big holdup is with Shaq and WWE, but it’s probably safe to assume that it has something to do with money.
Following Shaq’s statement, Big Show was interviewed by Sporting News, and he revealed that is WWE contact will expire in February of next year, and because of that, this was probably the last year where he could’ve had a big match at WrestleMania. So it’s easy to see why he’s a bit annoyed with Shaq right now.
“It is a little frustrating because my contract ends in February 2018. So I don’t know what’s going to happen between now and then. I don’t know if there will be an opportunity for me next year at WrestleMania or not. I don’t know because there’s a lot of new Superstars breaking out and I’ve done my time. This was my perhaps my last opportunity to have a featured match at WrestleMania. And I would have had a good time working with Shaq.”
A Big Show vs. Shaq match has been talked about ever since the former NBA star hosted Raw several years ago, and we got a small taste of what it’d be like during last year’s Andre the Giant Battle Royal, but it doesn’t look like we’re going to ever see the two big men collide in a WWE ring.
