Let’s make sure we get this one right: Jack Swagger is not out of WWE yet. You haven’t seen him on TV in a long time and he definitely wants out, but his departure is not yet official.

As we reported yesterday, Swagger used a podcast appearance to announce that he has asked for his release from WWE. “It’s still kind of an ongoing process right now,” he said.

A few other sites–we’re not naming names or anything–took this to mean that Swagger’s departure is a confirmed, done deal. Even the podcast itself advertises that the All-American American had been “granted release.”

That’s not the case. Swagger is still listed on WWE’s superstar page, and as of this moment he’s still under contract. We don’t know the details of Swagger’s contract, so it’s tough to say how difficult it will be for him to negotiate a release, or whether WWE might require a non-compete clause.

Any corporate difficulty would seem petty, however, considering that Swagger hasn’t been utilized anywhere aside from house shows for months now. Should he have another world title reign? Probably not, but he was a consistently over undercard performer even in his later days.
