This Sunday, a WrestleMania-caliber match up will take place, as John Cena will go one on one with Roman Reigns in what’ll be the first ever pay-per-view match between the two.
As you would probably expect, Reigns is favored to defeat Cena at No Mercy, and according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Cena will endorse Reigns as the next “top guy” after he loses to the ex-Shield member at No Mercy.
“The whole thing is that Cena and Reigns battle each other, and at the end, Cena endorses him and it’s the passing of the torch program. That’s the whole reason they’re doing this.”
Cena endorsing Reigns is just step one in WWE’s latest coronation attempt, as Reigns will likely challenge Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at next year’s WrestleMania in New Orleans, where he’ll likely defeat Lesnar, unlike he was able to do back at WrestleMania 31.
