Very shortly after it was revealed that Shane and Stephanie McMahon made to choose a General Manager for their brands, Daniel Bryan’s name was rumored. It was essentially a guarantee that it would be the role that would finally bring him back to WWE TV.

Ultimately, Daniel Bryan was selected for SmackDown and Mick Foley was chosen for Monday Night Raw. Although a lot of names were rumored, WWE officials had another name in mind for the SmackDown General Manager role originally before Bryan.

According to a report from RingSideNews.com, Santino Marella was talking with WWE officials about a non-wrestling role, which he believed was going to be the SmackDown General Manager role that eventually went to Daniel Bryan.

Recently, Main Event Radio interviewed the former Intercontinental Champion and the SmackDown GM role came to light as well as a potential return to WWE. You can listen to the full interview right here. Below is what Santino had to say about a WWE return:

“There was discussions with WWE of me taking on a non-wrestling role. I thought it was going to be SmackDown General Manager, but I guess they decided to give it to someone else. That’s fine. If I did go back now, it would have to be on a one-day a week schedule and I could probably swing that.”
